This is an academic organization with a world wide membership. It promotes research and study of all aspects of estuarine and coastal regions to encourage resource management for public benefit. The site contains amongst the others some useful links and information about forthcoming relevant international meetings.

Estuaries Management Handbook

The site describes the Estuaries Management Handbook Project which is aimed at serving management authorities, developers, planners, government, resource users, consultants, local interest groups and conservation services in South Africa. The site also contains several useful links.

Eastern Cape Estuaries Management Project

The site contains information on the Eastern Cape Estuaries Management Programme which is a two-year research project on the development of management policies, procedures and structures for Eastern Cape estuaries. Maintained by the Institute of Natural Resources in Pietermaritzburg.

National Estuarine Research Reserve System

Contains the list of estuaries in USA and Puerto Rico included in NOAA's NERRS. Each estuary has an individual web site with detailed description and project overview.

Estuaries in Australia

The database of Australian estuaries. The web site has a basic design. The database includes information on catchment area, rainfall, runoff coefficient, land use, water quality, tidal characteristics, vegetation, fisheries and conservation values, identified threats etc.

The site is maintained by Open Seas Instrumentation Inc. (Canada) and is perhaps the most extensive on the web for listing links to organizations involved in Oceanography and Marine Biology. All links are grouped into three main categories: i) links to databases, government organizations etc. ii) links to universities, research institutes and laboratories and iii) links to relevant industrial and commercial organizations. It is really worth visiting.
